Samsung Galaxy M21 review: When SAMSUNG lunched its Galaxy M-series, it was meant to cover the entire entry- level segment that was being ruled by Chinese- smartphone manufacturers. The series gained popularity quickly and it led to the entire J-series lineup being killed by the company.
The M-series of phones from Samsung– courtesy aggressive marketing and fine balance between feature-to-price ratio– have made a mark in the segment.
| . Solid built quality . Best-in class battery life . Decent performance
The company has recently announced one of its newest smartphone in this series.
Dubbed Galaxy M21, the starting price of the smartphone is Rs 13,999 for the base model and it builds upon the successful philosophy of the M-series lineup. It claims to offer good battery life, decent camera and performance and on top of that, it offers good value-for-money. but, how does it stand in real-world usage? Does it offer what matters to the buyers the most? Let’s find in our detailed review of Galaxy M21.
Samsung Galaxy M21: Design and display
The Samsung Galaxy M21 is the successor to the Galaxy M20 and it sits just below the Galaxy M31. Samsung has picked some design cues from the Galaxy M30s or let’s say, it looks a lot like the recently launched Galaxy M31. Just like most M-series smartphones, the Galaxy M21 too is made bout of plastic and that’s what helps the company to keep the pricing in check.
But that also makes that smartphone a little more durable compared to the glass sandwich design. The smartphone can take a few occasional drops, at least our model did survive a minor drop without any scratch or noticeable damage.
The Galaxy M21 features a glossy back and we were glad that it does not attract fingerprints that easily. Also, you’ll have to buy a case separately, as the company does not offer one inside the box. The curved corners at the back make it comfortable to hold and also makes it less slippery. The back also gets the physical fingerprint scanner and is positioned a little too high for our liking and often had to adjust the smartphone to reach it.
The front of the smartphone is covered with a 6.4-inch display which also has a waterdrop notch housing the selfie camera. There are bezels across the sides and the top is slim with a chunky chin, which is acceptable for a smartphone in this price segment.
placement on this smartphone is good and are easily reachable. They also offer good feedback when presswd. no complaints here.
The buttom of the phone houses the speaker grille, USB type-C port for charging, primary microphone and the good old headphone jack. The smartphone also supports 15-watt fast charging and Samsung is kind enough to offer the 15 watts charger inside the box.

Samsung Galaxy M21:Performance
we played a little quiz, by asking our colleagues which processors powers the Galaxy M21 and most of us guessed it right, it’s Exynos 9611, the same processor that powered Galaxy m30s, Galaxy M31 and Galaxy A51. It is not a new processor and certainly, it does not offer anything new it terms of performance.
Now, we have seen this processor in a action a couple of times and we already know that it offers a decent balance between the efficiency and performance. The Exynos 9611 is an octa-core processor and it consists of four high-performance ARM Cortex A-73 cores clocked at 2.3GHz and four 1.7Ghz low-performance ARM A-53 cores. The processor also includes the Mail-G72 graphics.
the performance of a smartphone does not only depend upon the processor as RAm and storage also plays an important role. For that, the smartphone is offered in two variants — 4GB + 64GB and 6Gb + 128GB.
Performance on this smartphone is similar to mwhat we have seen with oyher smartphone running the same processor. The smartphones handles the day-to-day tasks really well. We did not notice any sign of slowing down, stutter or lag. Basic apps such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Browser, etc loaded really fast, however, there’s some delay while working with heavy apps such as Photoshop, etc.
However, that’s just the delay while loading, after that it worked just fine, we edited a couple of photos and it was multitasking, Samsung management here. We found most apps running in the background when we switched back to it. However, we have our concerns about 4GB variant.
Samsung Galaxy M21 review:
Let’s talk about fun aka gaming performance, The Galaxy M21 is by no means a powerhouse and that reflects in its gaming performance. The smartphone can run almost every game, we are talking about the triple-A titles like PUBG Mobile, call of Duty: Mobile, Asphalt 9, etc.
But, without the guarantee that it’s going to do it high settings. For example, the Asphalt 9 managed to run on high settings, but we had to tone down the graphics settings a little to play PUBG Mobile and Call of Duty Mobile at smooth frame rates. But, they are totally playable. Casual games run just fine without breaking a sweat.
The Galaxy M21 comes with Android 10 with One UI 2.0 custom skin on the top. One UI 2.0 is among the most refined custom Android skin. it offers tons of features and functionality that are actually useful for users.
Most noticeable ones are dual apps, dedicated Device management centre also known as Device Care, inbuilt data saver mode, dark mode, game booster, battery saver and more. The UI felt smooth and there are no noticeable rough edges here. One UI also comes with Android 10 based navigation gestures.
one thing that bothered us was the bloatware that comes pre-installed with the smartphone. Thankfully, most of them can be uninstalled in case anyone doesn’t want to use them.
Samsung has also not compromised in terms of sensors, it comes with a gyro sensor, geomagnetic sensor, accelerometer, virtual light sensor and proximity sensor.
